Xiphiagrion cyanomelas

Does Odonata stand on water? The answer from AI Overview says no. However, I had an overwhelming observation on Xiphiagrion cyanomelas at Paya Maga (ca. 1650 m a.s.l.), Sarawak in 2010. I spotted many males of Xiphiagrion cyanomelas standing on water at water pools or small ponds in Paya Maga. Their legs were basically on the water, and sometime with their tail end was also touching the surface of water. When wind blew across the water pools, they drifted smoothly across the water surface.

Larva - Pseudagrion microcephalum

The Pseudagrion microcephalum larva (male; final stadium) shown below has a very short middle caudal lamella compared to the lateral caudal lamella. This shows that a broken caudal lamella in Pseudagrion microcephalum can regenerate. You may click here to see the normal (without regeneration) caudal lamella of Pseudagrion microcephalum
